Fort Lee Police Department Empowers Officers With a Strong Technology Public Safety Strategy

MONTRÉAL, April 22, 2026 — Genetec Inc. (“Genetec”), the global leader in enterprise physical security software, today announced that the Fort Lee Police Department (FLPD) in New Jersey has modernized its city-wide public safety operations using Genetec™ Security Center, including video management, automatic license plate recognition (ALPR), and Clearance™ digital evidence management.

Located at the foot of the George Washington Bridge, the borough of Fort Lee sees more than 300,000 vehicles cross into and out of Manhattan each day. The constant flow of traffic creates unique public safety challenges, including transient crime and time-sensitive incidents. To stay proactive, FLPD adopted an open, IP-based system designed to support fast response and seamless collaboration.

Years ago, FLPD implemented Genetec video management, unified with Security Center, to manage its growing network of cameras. Today, the department oversees more than 200 cameras across the borough. Using the Federation™ feature in Security Center, FLPD connects video systems from schools and a parking garage into its city-wide deployment, giving dispatchers and officers a broader operational view.

To support vehicle-related investigations, the department deployed ALPR. When incidents occur, dispatchers can quickly access video and ALPR data from an interactive city map and relay intelligence to responding officers in real time.

“With Genetec solutions, our dispatchers and officers are empowered to handle any situation quickly and effectively. We’ve seen huge efficiency gains across our operations,” said Captain Thomas Porto of the Fort Lee Police Department.

For investigations, detectives centralize and manage digital evidence using Clearance. Video, interview recordings, and vehicle data are organized into case files that can be securely shared with authorized stakeholders.

“Before, requesting video from witnesses or businesses was a challenge. Now, we can email a secure link, and the witness or business can upload the files. It automatically gets logged in the right case file. And since Clearance supports many different video codecs, we can view the video right away,” said Captain Porto.

With a unified system in place, FLPD continues to expand its public safety initiatives at a pace that aligns with operational priorities and budget considerations. “We have a solid platform to keep expanding our city-wide initiatives, empowering our officers, and protecting the community we serve,” concluded Captain Porto.
